What Is Medicare Advantage?

Plans are provided by private insurers who are contracted with Medicare. Medicare Advantage Plan members must continue to pay their Part B premium and live within the service area of the Medicare Advantage program. Individuals who have been diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) may be eligible to join a Medicare Advantage Plan. Individuals who have both Medicare and Medicaid may be eligible for Dual Special Needs Medicare Advantage Plans. You may be eligible to join a Medicare Advantage plan outside this period if you qualify for a special enrollment period due to circumstances such as moving out of state or losing employer coverage. However, individuals who are eligible for Dual Special Needs Medicare Advantage Plans may enroll at almost any time.
